End Phone Spam

 

Australia is plagued by unsolicited phone calls originating from within our borders and beyond them as well. They are annoying, disrupting and often fraudulent.

 

Phone companies should be compelled to:
  1. Have an easy system for reporting such calls
  2. Block repeat offenders
  3. Have a whitelist for foreign call centres who make bulk calls to Australia. Not registered? Bulk calls won’t get through
  4. Display the phone numbers of overseas calls – no blocked IDs

Last year the FCC in the United States told phone companies to make it easier for people to avoid spam calls. And they have all now implemented measures that alert you if a call is suspect, and let you report calls. It is doable, we just need a government willing to make it happen.
